We’re excited to share that our project, Cost-effective, Bespoke Adaptive Tutoring using Open Source Tools and GenAI, has been selected as a recipient of an AI FAST (Funding for Accelerated Study and Transformation) Challenge award from the California Learning Lab!
This competitive grant program supports rapid, high-impact innovation in artificial intelligence for education across California’s public colleges and universities. Our proposal—led by UC Berkeley in partnership with Mission College and San Jose State University—was selected under Track 2: Optimizing Teaching, Learning, and Student Advancement.
Over the next 18 months, we will accelerate development of OATutor, particularly in the area of mastery-based adaptive tutoring for Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and Chemistry. All adaptive content developed during this project will be shared under a Creative Commons license for broad use and reuse. We expect to impact over 2,000 students and demonstrate how AI can enable scalable, personalized instruction and drastically reduce the cost of developing bespoke intelligent tutors.
We’re grateful to the Learning Lab for supporting this work and look forward to sharing our tools and research findings with the broader educational community.
